If you run the Metadata Analyze and Repair utility in the Metadata Manager Plug–Ins tab of SAS® Management Console and choose to repair, or if you run the Analyze Metadata batch utility with the –REPAIR option, you should first pause the SAS® Metadata Server to Administration state.
If the SAS Metadata Server is in Online state when the repair is running, there is the possibility that users are also accessing the metadata at the same time. This can cause the repair process to misinterpret the state of the metadata and attempt to repair metadata that is not damaged. This repair can introduce corruption of its own.
Failing to pause the SAS Metadata Server in this manner can result in corruption of your metadata.
Note: while no harm will come to the metadata if only the analysis (without repair) is executed with the server running, it would still be advisable to pause the server to Administrative state when analyzing the metadata. Otherwise, the analysis report may indicate problems that do not truly exist.
